When you send/receive a PGP encrypted email to or from another StartMail user, the PGP public key exchange will happen automatically if you change your Settings.
If you want to use PGP-encryption with someone who does not use StartMail or you want to exchange your PGP public keys on an individual basis with other StartMail users, you will both need to exchange your PGP public keys.
Ask the recipient to send their PGP public key as an attachment. The key can then be saved directly from the email as an .asc file and imported using the steps below.
Send your PGP public key
- When composing a message, click on Attach > Attach public key. This will attach your PGP public key to the message.
Send your PGP public key by default
1. Click on Settings > Encryption. Click on the toggle button under Attach my public key by default > Always attach your public key to outgoing mail
Import PGP public key
1. Go to Settings > PGP Keyring and click on the Import key button.
2. Upload your PGP public key by either dragging a .asc file on the window, or pasting the PGP public key data in the text field. When pasting manually, make sure the key starts with: -----BEGIN PGP KEY BLOCK------ and ends with ----END PGP KEY BLOCK-----
When done, click Import key.
