How do I change my IMAP password?

In general, you may configure your StartMail account to work with your email client* using the IMAP protocol just one time. If you should change your StartMail account password, your IMAP account configuration will not be affected.

However, if your email client stops working correctly, perhaps you can no longer send or receive mail, or, a security issue may prompt you to change your IMAP password, you should remove your email client account configuration. You can do this by changing your IMAP password, and re-configuring your StartMail account in your email client. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. From a Web browser, log in at
  2. Click the Settings link from the top, right corner of your StartMail page

  3. From the Settings menu, select Mobile/IMAP

  4. Delete the IMAP configuration from the list of "devices" you wish to modify. (You will be required to enter your StartMail account password to verify your identity)

  5. Enable your IMAP connection again by following the instructions given here.
