How to encrypt your email (New)

This article assumes you and your recipient(s) have set up PGP encryption. If you have not set up PGP encryption, first refer to this support article.

Follow these steps to encrypt your email:

  1. Log in to https://startmail.com

  2. Click Compose

    Click "Compose".

  3. Click Encrypt




  4. Enter your recipient(s) in the To: field.

    ➤ For any recipient who is not an @startmail.com address, you must first import their public key to your keyring. Click here for more information.

  5. When you are finished composing, click Send encrypted

    Click "Send encrypted".

  6. If you don´t have the recipients public key, the recipients address is highlighted in orange. Please import that key manually or send a Password Protected Message (PPM) to that recipient.

    If you don´t have your recipients public key on your key ring, the recipients address is higlighted in orange.
