Your Recovery Email Address is used to receive a password recovery link in case you lose the password of your StartMail account.
Note that when you request a password recovery link for your StartMail account, it can take up to 6 hours before the link arrives to your Recovery Email Address.
How to add or change your Recovery Email Address
- Go to Settings > Account settings and click on Add recovery address.
- In the pop-up modal, enter the email address you want to use as your recovery email address, and your StartMail account password and click on Submit.
- A verification email is going to be send to the entered recovery email address. Click on Done.
- Click the link in the email sent to the recovery address you provided. Until you click the verification link, the address will be considered 'not yet verified' and cannot be used to recover your account.
- Enter the password for the StartMail account in which you want to change the recovery address, and then click Confirm.
- As soon as you clicked on the link, the recovery address is shown as "verified". Now you can use this address to recover your acount.
Using another StartMail address for recovery
If you have more than one StartMail account and want to use the other StartMail account for recovery, this is possible. However, as you can only be logged in to one account at a time, special steps are required.
Account A = The StartMail account for which you are configuring the recovery address.
Account B = The StartMail account that you want to set up as the recovery address.
Steps 1-3 are the same as described above.
In step 4, you are logged in to account B, as you probably logged in to this account to confirm the link. However, instead of clicking directly on the link, we recommend that you copy it and then paste it into another browser or a private window.
You must then confirm the accessed page with the password of account A.
If your browser's password manager now asks whether you want to update the password, decline the request for the time being. In any case, make sure that the recovery address is now properly confirmed before you accidentally overwrite the password with the password of the other StartMail account.
