Your recovery email address is used to send a password recovery link in case you lose the password of your StartMail account.
It can take up to 6 hours before you receive your recovery link into your recovery email address.
How to change your recovery email address
1. Click on Settings>Account Settings
2. Click on Change recovery email
(This works if you are changing the recovery email address - If you need to use the same recovery email address to get another verification email, please see Step # 8).
If you want to use another StartMail email address as a recovery email address, you can do this but you'll need to open the verification email in a different browser.
The screenshot below shows another StartMail email address as a recovery email address but you may use another email service as your recovery email address.
3. Enter your new email recovery address and your StartMail account password; click Submit
4. You'll see a pop up about a verification email being sent to your recovery email address
5. The example below shows a verification email sent to a StartMail account that's being used as an email recovery address.
If you haven't used a StartMail address for a recovery email address, you'll receive the verification email at your other email's recovery email address.
Click on the blue URL link in the email or copy and paste it into your browser
- If you're using a StartMail account as the recovery email address, you'll need to open a different browser since you cannot have two different StartMail accounts open in the same browser.
6. Verification/confirmation email message sent to recovery email address (another StartMail account's alias).
Enter the email password for the StartMail account you are verifying the recovery email address for.
7. Confirmation of recovery email address
8. You may already have a recovery email address but it still hasn't been verified/confirmed and you've lost the confirmation link.
To get a new confirmation link, see below.
Click directly on the current recovery email address.
9. In the new pop up enter your StartMail account password, and click Disable.
10. Your recovery email address button is now turned off
11. Click the password recovery email address button to ON and you'll see the following pop up.
- Enter your new recovery email address (the same one you had before) and Enter your account password
- Click Submit
12. Notification that your recovery email address will receive a verification email from StartMail
Why do I sometimes see a recovery email address screen?
We will occasionally show you a reminder to confirm or set a recovery email address when you log in to your account. We do this to confirm that:
- You have set a recovery email address.
- The recovery email address is still accurate.
We show this to remind you of your recovery email address or recovery code and help keep it up-to-date. While we understand that this might be annoying, there is no way you can recover your StartMail account if you do not have a verified recovery email address or recovery code that you can access.
