Importing an .mbox file is not supported by all email providers.
Therefore, you usually need to take an intermediate step using an email client such as Thunderbird.
-
Open Thunderbird, open the menu in the upper right corner and click on „Add-Ons and Themes“.
-
Search for ImportExportTools NG and click on „Add to Thunderbird“.
-
Close Thunderbird and re-start it.
-
On top you should see now the new „Add-on Import Export Tools NG“.
-
Perform in the folder view a right click on the Local Folder > ImportExportTools > Import mboxfiles > Individual mbox files
-
Select the .mbox file you created with your previous email provider.
-
A new folder containing all emails from your previous provider was created under the Local Folder.
How can I import the .mbox file in StartMail?
Once you've created a folder with your emails from your previous provider, it's time to set up an IMAP connection from StartMail to Thunderbird.
-
In the first steps you have to enable the IMAP function for your StartMail account and create an own IMAP device password. Read this article, how to do it.
-
Open the Thunderbird menu on top right and click on „New Account“ >„Existing E-Mail“
-
Enter Your Name, your correct StartMail- address and copy and paste the device password you generated in step 1.
-
After Thunderbird found your server settings, click on „Done“.
-
Your StartMail account appeared now in your Thunderbird. Now you just have to drag and drop the folder from the .mbox file up to the StartMail account.
-
After opening your StartMail Webinterface, the folder should be synchronized to your StartMail Webmail.
