This article describes the different types of alias addresses that StartMail offers.
An alias allows you to send and receive emails from an email address other than your regular StartMail address.
StartMail offers several types of alias addresses, depending on how your account is set up:
-
Personal and quick aliases always end in @use.startmail.com instead of @startmail.com. This is to ensure that alias email addresses do not conflict with the address options available for StartMail's main email addresses. An alias email address might look like this: my_email_alias@use.startmail.com
-
Burner aliases are generated by the system, the alias is created with one click and is automatically deleted after one hour. It is not possible to send email from a disposable address. Only one disposable address can be active at any given time.
- Domain aliases end in your own domain. This type of alias address can only be created in accounts where your own domain has been set up and verified. They can be assigned to multiple recipients. Domain alias addresses can only be created, managed or deleted through the Group Subscription Manager.
You can create any number of alias addresses.
Mail sent to and from alias addresses will be found in your account's Inbox and Sent folder. Alias addresses do not initially have their own folders, but you can create filters and folders to direct incoming messages to alias addresses to a specific folder.
It is not possible to send encrypted emails from an alias address.
