Watch our how-to video (hosted via our website) or follow the written instructions below.
Since this video was created, we have updated and improved the StartMail user interface and introduced new subscription plans and features. While the video may show slight differences, the information in this support article is current and accurate.
Data leaks have unfortunately become common. If you need to register with your email address somewhere, for example to sign up for an online message board, you may want to register using an alias. If your alias address is ever exposed and spammers get hold of it, you can simply deactivate or delete the alias, and senders will receive a bounce-back message.
Personal alias allows you to send and receive email at an email address different from your main StartMail account address. These email aliases end in @use.startmail.com instead of @startmail.com.
It is not possible to send encrypted emails from an alias address.

Create a personal or quick alias from Compose view

-
The steps are the same as when creating an alias from the Alias tab.

(De)activating personal or quick aliases
Personal aliases can be deactivated in general by the account owner.
- Under Aliases > Personal aliases, click the toggle on the left side of the alias address. This is a temporary setting and the alias can be reactivated by clicking on the toggle again. When set to OFF, senders will receive a bounce back or undeliverable message. Disabled aliases cannot be edited.
Editing a personal or quick alias
Email-alias addresses can not be edited. You can edit the Display name, the Notes, and the timeframe when you want your alias to be deactivated automatically.
Click in Personal alias the Edit button to the right of an alias.
Deleting a personal or quick alias
When you delete a personal or quick alias, it is a permanent action. Once an alias ending in @use.startmail.com is deleted, it can never be used again.
To delete a personal/quick alias click on the trash can icon to the right of the alias you want to delete.
Emails sent to a deleted alias will no longer be delivered to your mailbox. Senders will receive a bounce back or undeliverable message.
Filtering personal and quick aliases
If you are using a lot of aliases, you may want to filter them. Click on Filter by on the top right of the Aliases > Custom Aliases page. Select the appropriate filters.
Sorting personal and quick aliases
Sort your aliases by creation date (ascending/descending) or alias email address (ascending/descending).
