This article will guide you through using aliases with a custom domain.
With an alias address, you can send and receive emails from an email address other than your regular StartMail address.
Domain aliases end in your own domain. They can be assigned to multiple recipients. Domain aliases can only be created, managed, or deleted by the Subscription Manager. The domain must already be owned by you and successfully verified with StartMail.
There is no limit to the number of Domain aliases you can create.
Please note that emails sent to and from aliases will appear in your account's Inbox and Sent folder, just like emails sent to or from your main email address. Aliases do not have their own folders, although you can create a filter to direct incoming messages to a specific folder.
It is not possible to send encrypted emails from an alias address.
Domain aliases
Creating domain aliases is only enabled for manager accounts. You may notice that there are different views for manager accounts and subaccounts in the domain alias tab. Creating, deactivating, editing and deleting domain aliases is only possible in the manager account.

Creating domain aliases
- Click on Aliases in the top menu.
- Click Domain aliases > Create domain alias.
- Enter an address in front of the domain, choose also the domain, if you set up several. Select the recipients you want to receive or answer emails from that alias, and confirm by clicking Create alias.
(De)activating a domain alias
Domain aliases can only be deactivated by the account manager of a subscription group. If you as an owner of a subaccount do not want to be a recipient for a certain domain alias anymore, please contact your subscription manager in order to remove you from that recipients' list.
To deactivate a domain alias, turn the toggle OFF.
Editing a domain alias
Email-alias addresses cannot be edited. You can edit the Display name, the Notes and the timeframe, when you want your alias to be deactivated automatically.
Click in Domain alias the Edit button to the right of an alias.
Deleting a domain alias
When you delete a personal or quick alias, it is a permanent action that cannot be reversed. When you delete an alias ending in your own domain, the alias can be created again.
To delete a domain alias click on the trash can icon to the right of the alias you want to delete.
Emails sent to a deleted alias will no longer be delivered to your mailbox if you didn't enabled the catch-all function. Senders will receive a bounce back or undeliverable message.
Filtering domain aliases
If you are using a lot of aliases, you may want to filter them. Click on Filter by on the top right of the Aliases > Domain aliases page. Select the appropriate filters.
Sorting domain aliases
Sort your aliases by creation date (ascending/descending) or alias email address (ascending/descending).
