In this article you will learn how to create group subscriptions, know what your employees or family members see at their first login, and how they can recover their account in case they have lost their password.
Please note that for an account with your own domain, you must own the domain already.
Create Additional accounts for employees and family members
-
Log into your StartMail account on https://mail.startmail.com/login.
-
Navigate to Settings > Group subscription.
If you are still in trial period, it's not yet possible, to add another account. -
Click on Create email account +.
-
Enter the Display Name. This can be changed by the member that will manage that additional account. Enter the email address and choose the domain name. If you set up your own domain, it will be available in the dropdown box.
Note: The email address cannot be changed once you create the account. Copy the displayed password, as this is only displayed once, and write it down with the email address you have chosen for the additional account.
Share it securely with the account owner for her/his first login until they change their password. An order summary will show a prorated amount - based on time left in your current subscription period. The annual price will be charged when your subscription renews.
Click on Pay & create. -
Enter your password to create the new additional account. Click on Pay& create.
-
It may take a few minutes to create the account.
-
When the account is created, you will see it in the list of Additional accounts.
First login of your employee or family member
-
Visit https://mail.startmail.com/login and enter the login credentials your subscription manager shared with you.
-
When you successfully log into your account, you should change your password. A pop-up will appear on your first login for that purpose. Skip it, if you want to keep your original password.
-
Now you can make the choice how you want to recover your account in case you lose your password. The email address of your subscription manager is automatically set as the recovery address when the account is created. If you decide to enter your own email address, please be aware that you have to confirm it to verify it in our systems.
Recover the Additional account
-
Navigate to https://mail.startmail.com/login and click on Forgot your password?
-
Click on Recovery email.
-
Enter the email address you want to recover, complete the hCaptcha, and click on Send reset link.
-
A confirmation will be displayed. For security reasons, we have stored your recovery key in an encrypted format which requires the keys of two StartMail designated staff members to decrypt. As a result, it may take up to 6 hours to approve and release your recovery request before you receive the password reset email.
-
The password reset link will be send to your recovery email address. By default this is the email address of the subscription manager. He has to enter a new password, complete the hCaptcha, and click on Set new password and share the new password with the member.
-
Additionally you can generate a recovery code. Make sure you securely store this code, and do not share it with anyone.
